Anchorage is an eastern Jefferson county town founded in the 1840s by Edward D. Hobbs, president of the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad. The post office opened as Hobbs Station in 1865, but was renamed Anchorage in 1872 for the home of James W. Goslee, a retired riverboat captain. The post office has since closed. The population in 1990 was 2,082.
Ballardsville is a small community that lies a few miles south of La Grange on KY 53.
Crestwood is a town in southern Oldham County, less than half and hour from Louisville. A Beard's Station post office opened on the site in 1857 for the station on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad. The station was named for Joseph Beard, who had donated the land. The name was shortened to Beard in 1880 which lead to the town being referred to as Whiskers. The town and post office were renamed Crestwood in 1909. The source of the name is not known. The population in 1990 was 1,435.

La Grange, the seat of Oldham county, is located in the eastern part of the county near the junction of I-71 and KY 53. It was founded in 1827 at the crossing of the Shelbyville-Westport road and the Louisville-New Castle road and named for the home of General Lafayette. La Grange was established to be the county seat, which had been located at Westport. It was moved to La Grange in 1827, back to Westport in 1828, and back to La Grange again in 1838. The La Grange post office opened in 1828. The population in 1990 was 3,853.

Lake Louisvilla is a neighborhood partially located in Louisville, Kentucky. It is located between Westport Road in Louisville and KY 22. Lake Louisvilla was developed in the 1920s as a summer resort for people living in the city of Louisville. The state of Kentucky drained the lake in the late 1980s due to safety concerns regarding the stability of a dam.
Pewee Valley is located in southwestern Oldham county on KY 146 near the boundary with Jefferson county. The town of Smiths Station, probably named for a local businessman, was established on the site in 1852 on the Louisville and Frankfort Railroad. The Pewee Valley post office opened in 1856. The community was named for the Eastern Wood Pewee bird. The population in 1990 was 1,283. .

Westport is a western Oldham county community on the Ohio River. It was established late in the eighteenth century and may have originally been known as Liberty. It was called Westport by 1797 and was made the seat of Oldham county when it was formed in 1823. The seat was moved to La Grange in 1827, back to Westport in 1828, and back to La Grange again in 1838. The Westport post office opened in 1816.
