If you don’t find an answer below, you’re welcome to contact the County Coordinator. Please include Fairfax County VAGenWeb in the subject line.
Getting Started
I am new to genealogy. Where do I start for Fairfax County?
Start in Resources and review the links for beginners and local repositories. Then post your surnames and questions on the Queries page.
Also see: Tips for Research.
I don’t see a church or cemetery I expected to find.
If you don’t see it here, it usually means no one has submitted it yet. This site grows through contributed material.
If you have a list, transcription, photo set, or location details, please email the coordinator so it can be added.
The pictures look small. Can I view them larger?
Yes—many images are posted as thumbnails. Click the image to open a larger view when available.
How do I submit information to be added to the site?
Email your material to the coordinator. You can paste the text into an email, or attach a document (such as .doc or .txt). Please include sources whenever possible.

Requests & Lookups
I’m looking for information about a specific person.
If it isn’t on the site, it hasn’t been contributed yet. This site shares submitted material for public use, and the coordinator may not have access to additional records beyond what is posted.
Your best next step is to post a detailed question on the Queries page and include: names, dates, places, neighbors/associates, and what you’ve already checked.
Can you send me an original record (marriage license, birth/death certificate, court document)?
Original documents typically must be obtained from the appropriate office or repository. Start with contact details on the Addresses page.
