Submitting Cemetery Information

Thank you for helping preserve Fairfax County history. Here’s the easiest way to submit names and photos so they can be posted quickly and accurately.

How to Submit Cemetery Records

I'm always pleased to receive Fairfax County cemetery information for inclusion on this website. To make sure your submission can be posted quickly and accurately, please send entries in this format:

Last Name, First Name, Middle, Birth date - Death date, plus any inscription details (relationships, military service, share stone with notes, etc.)

Date format: Please use Month Day, Year (example: Jul 25, 1880). This prevents re-typing and reduces errors.

Example Entries

Smith, Frederick I., Jul 25, 1880 - Mar 2, 1937, husband of Mary Elizabeth, shares stone with Mary Elizabeth Smith, Mary Elizabeth, Mar 1, 1881 - Sep 2, 1940, wife of Frederick I., shares stone with Frederick I.

Submitting Photos

Photos are welcome, but please include the written information in your email. It's very time-consuming to read names and dates from photos alone.

Photo File Naming (recommended)

Use all lower case, no spaces or punctuation. Put the surname first, then initials for first and middle names.

Most servers reject filenames with spaces or punctuation (example: Smith, Fred and Mary.jpg). Using the convention above helps me match photos to names quickly.

Final Notes

  • You do not need to alphabetize your list.
  • I can resize/crop photos if needed.
  • Please include the cemetery name and Fairfax County, VA in your email subject line.
Thank you! Your submissions help preserve Fairfax County history and make research easier for everyone.
