Posted 06/04/2012 Surnames: Abbott I am looking for any information on John ABBOTT born 1810 in Virginia and died 03 May 1888 in Oldham County Ky. He married Nancy Tapp 17 Oct. 1831 in Oldham County. She died 14 Jan. 1894. Her father was Nimrod Tapp. The line that I’m following is his daughter Sarah Abbott born 1834 in Oldham County. She had these children: Samuel born about 1855, Eli born about 1860, Robert born 1864, and George born about 1874 in Oldham County Ky. They all went by the name ABBOTT. I would like to know who their father was. She is listed as a farmer in the census records. Any information is greatly welcomed! Thanks, Janet Jansgen@gmail.com Posted 06/20/2011 Surnames: Adams / Kirkwood / Jackson In the Oldham, Henry, Jefferson County area there were 3 KIRKWOOD siblings married to 3 ADAMS siblings. The ADAMS siblings were children of William and Nancy ___ ADAMS of York County, PA and Henry County, Kentucky. There were no KIRKWOOD elders in the area so their father must have been deceased and the mother remarried or also dead. On Oct 9 1796 in Jefferson Co. MARTHA KIRKWOOD md MARTIN ADAMS bondsman was JOHN JACKSON, Jr. This couple seems to have disappeared from Kentucky. On 21 Jan 1800 MARY KIRKWOOD b 10 May 1776 d 12 Oct 1850 md FRANCIS ADAMS b 15 Apr 1776 d 10 Jun 1834. Bondsman was JOHN JACKSON. Mary and Francis lived and died just over the Jefferson Co line in Oldham Co. off the old River Road. On 5 Jul 1810 WILLIAM KIRKWOOD md Naomi Morrison d of Hugh wit was Levi Tyler. He married 2ndon 28 Aug 1820 to NANCY ADAMS d of FRANCIS ADAMS. FRANCIS ADAMS was bondman. It appears William married his niece. The only reference I have found to the origin of the KIRKWOOD family was the 1850 census for Mary Kirkwood Adams says she was born Virginia. There were KIRKWOOD’S in York Co Pa. but no connection has been found. Since JOHN JACKSON was bondsman for both girls’ marriages I assume there is a family tie. Any information on any these people could be a help and will be appreciated. Thanks, Martha Easter measter@cfl.rr.com
Posted 05/02/11 Surname: Thompson
Nelson P. Thompson was born in what is now Oldham CO., KY, Jan
1812. I have seen estimates as late as 1814. He died, I believe
some time between 1 Jun 1885 and 1897 in Bent CO., Colorado.
Both his parents were born in VA. He married 20 Sep 1833,
Telitha P. Van Cleave d/oDavid and Rachel Sweringen Van
Cleave,in Decatur CO.,IN. Telitha was born 14 Feb 1810, Shelby
CO., KY but by 1933 her family had moved to Decatur CO.,
IN.Nelson and Telitha may have stayed in Indiana maybe long
enough to have at least there first child James C. Thompson but
by the time of the 1840 census they were in Western Div., Henry
CO., KY. By 1850,Clay CO., ILL. 1860,Bates CO., MO. 1870,Not
Found, 1880,Bates CO., MO.1 Jun 1885, enumeration dist. 2,Bent
CO., Colorado. with his son Archibald H.M. Thompson and his
family. Telitha died 24 Oct 1861, Bates CO., MO. His son
Archibald was in Los Angeles by at least 1897. As far as I have
been able to find, Nelson never made it to Los Angeles. Children
of Nelson P. and Telitha P. Van Cleave Thompson:
CH: 1) James C. Thompson M: Mary Elizabeth Thacker.
2) Rachel Amanda Thompson M: David Landreth 3) Elizabeth C.
Thompson M: William Alexander Drake 4) David Edmond Thompson M:
Lucinda Abigail Drake 5) Archibald H.M. Thompson M: Sarah
Elizabeth Cohee 6) Van G.S. Thompson: Seems to have died young.
" 7) Mary Drusilla Thompson M: Nathaniel Anderson Griffitts.
Nelson named his first daughter Rachel after Telithas' mother
Rachel Swaringen. I believe He may have named his first son
James C. Thompson or his second son David Edmond Thompson after
his Own Father. I Have found James', Davids' and Archibalds' in
that area of Kentucky. Also I believe there is a good chance
that he named his second daughter Elizabeth C. Thompson after
his mother. All this of course is speculation, but may give
clues to his parents. Nelson P. Thompson is my wifes'
gggrandfather. Any help in this matter would be greatly
appreciated. You may contact me at the following email

Posted 02/25/11 Surname: Hoskins I am stuck at a point of research, attempting to find all of the wives of Achilles (Achillis, Archiles, etc.) Hoskins to connect his granddaughter America back to him. One of his wives was Nancy Wright who he married in Oldham Co. I have found two dates Oct. 19, 1830 and Oct. 21, 1830. The first date is probably the bond and the second is the ceremony but the names are different on both. One says Mary and the other says Nancy. If there is anyone researching the Hoskin family, I would love to get in touch. Thank you for any help, Dona, dona.smith@comcast.net Posted 03/25/10 Surname: Vaughn I am researching the HenryVaughan familyof Oldham Kentucky but I am not sure where to look for them within the county. I find them in Division 1 on the 1850 census. On the 1850 census it is his wife Eveline (Ford) Vaughn and her children. [Henry died before the 1850 census] I am looking to see where division 1is so maybe I might be able to find a cemetery where he might be buried or get a better idea of the region they were living in before they moved to MO in 1857. Thanks for any help, Michell Michelldurbecq@aol.com Posted 01/29/10 Surname: Huffman Looking to connect with Huffman Family researchers. I would love to find the Huffman Bible and a silver plated communion set that was given to the old Goshen Presbyterian Church. I understand the church was lost to the weather and vegetation elements. I hope some day to make a trip to Oldham County and Jefferson County and to Cave Hill Cemetery. If any one has info on this family I would love to have contact. Thank you so much, Connie Barnwell cpbarnwell@charter.net Posted 12/17/09 Surname: Richmond I'm looking for any information on
James Richmond before 1810. I have him in the 1810 Census
Henry County (later became Oldham then Trimble County) as
head of household
but it does not show him there. It shows 5 boys 0-9, 2 boys 10-15
and 1 woman 26-44. In later census records it shows James and his
wife to have been born in Virginia. His wife's name was Sarah
(Sally) last name unknown. Posted 10/18/09 Surname: Turner Looking for any information that would identify the parents of
two Turner brothers. They were probably born in the part of eastern
Oldham County and lived there when the area around their home became
part of Trimble County in 1837. The older brother Archibald Turner
was born about 1825. William was born Jan 27, 1827. They lived in
Trimble County until the mid-1850s. After that, they moved to
Catahoula Parish, Louisiana before returning to Trimble County in
the 1870s. They both ultimately died in Jefferson County, Indiana.
Their headstones in the Hanover (Indiana) Cemetery confirm that they
fought on opposite sides during the Civil War: Archibald rode with
the 1st Louisiana Cavalry and William fought with the 59th Indiana
Infantry. Any help would really be appreciated! Terry Cox

I am have great difficulty
researching my Smith family line. I'm hoping you can post a
message regarding my Great Great Grandfather. James William
Smith was born in Oldham County Kentucky on February 2 1860, but
spent most of his life around Fulton. I can not find any
information on James. Are there any records available about his

here are the details (as of January 3 1950) from anobituary. He
married hiswife Annie Linza Callender in June 1881.She died
in 1922. His sons were: Charles E. Smith, late husband of Mozelle Terry. Charles was killed in a plane crashon April 5 1926 in StLouis Missouri and buried in Fairview cemeteryin Fulton. Riley D. I am trying to find father of Elias Berry who married Evaline Fitzgerald in Oldham co. This is one of the first earliest recorded marriages in Oldham Co. Any help will really be appreciated, Randy S. Berry, ev13epd@yahoo.com Posted 04/07/09 Surname: Graham / Grimes I'm searching for the parents of Mary Ann J. Graham (or Grimes) born 3 Jan 1852 in Buckner, Oldham, Kentucky. The story is that her parents had a horse farm and did not approve of her suitor John Henry Smith (born in England?), so they stole a horse and carriage to elope to Cincinnati. They were married in Cincinnati 14 Sept 1874 and eventually moved to Muskingum County, Ohio where John and Mary (Ann J. Grimes/Graham) Smith are buried. Mary named her daughters Lida, Dollie and Lucinda, and family presume the girls were named after her sisters. No other mention of her Kentucky roots were ever discussed because she was disowned as a consequence of the elopement. Any leads would be appreciated. -Elizabeth Davis thaibezel@gmail.com Posted 02/28/09

Posted 02/28/09 Surname: Holmes
I am looking for ancestors John R. Holmes and his wife Nancy
Miller Holmes. They were residents of Oldham County in both the
1870 and 1880 census.
John, born in England about 1807-8 Both his parents were born
in England. It is unknown when he came to this country. In 1880,
he gives his occupation as a Retired Manufacturer. In 1850, in
Louisville, he gives his occupation as a Cabinetmaker.. He
resided in Louisville, Jefferson County in 1840 and 1850
according to the census. Nancy, born in Virginia or west
Virginia 1808. She says her parents were born in Pennsylvania.
Since their first child was born in 1838 in Louisville,
Jefferson county, I am assuming they were married between
1835-39 in Kentucky, but cannot find their marriage records.
Their children were:
Gertrude Holmes 1838-
John R. Holmes 1839-1912
Josephine Holmes 1842-1930 (my GG Grandmother - married
Martin DeMoss)
Jennie Holmes Berry 1844-1931 (married John Berry)
James Bliss Holmes 1848-1919
Samuel B. Holmes 1852 -
I do not know anything about them before 1839 and have no
idea when they died. In 1880 they were both about 72 yrs old. If
anyone has any knowledge of this branch of my family, I would be
grateful for info. Thanks, Laura

Posted 12/18/08 Surname: Million
I am trying to find the
date of deathor any information relating tomy
Great-Great-Grandfather George Million. Information that I have
is that he married Harriet Glore 19 Feb 1827 in Oldham
county.My Great-grandfatherWilliam L.Million was born 15 Aug
1834 in Oldham county. George and Harriet's youngest Son Andrew
J. Million was born in Oldham County. According to an 1850
Illinoiscensus, his age would indicate he was born in 1841, and
onthe 1860 Moultrie Co. Illinoiscensus his age would put his
birth in 1839.
George is reported to have been the Postmaster in 1833 at
Brownsboro, Oldham Co. taking over that positionafter the death
of Post Master Jacob Oglesby whohad beenthe original
presidential appointee in 182?. Harriet next shows as the widow
of George and married to a John Patterson 11 Mar 1843 in Oldham
county.
So all I have to go on is that Harriet was widowed some time
between Andrew's birth in 1839 or '41and her marriage to John
Patterson in 1843.
As further reference, George was the son of John Million, and
was probably born near Louisvillein Jefferson county Kentucky
in the early 1800s. John Millionappears in the 1810 Jefferson
county census as having one son and four daughters.
I have exhausted my online search. Many vital statistics that
are available online are long after the dates I am interested
in. What cemeteries werebeing used in OldhamCo. c. 1840? I
would be most grateful for ANY information that can be found. A
sincere thank you, and I hope to hear from anyoneregarding this
family. David Heitz
