County Directors:
As a County Director, you play a crucial role in preserving and sharing the rich genealogical heritage of your county. Your responsibilities include creating and maintaining a county website dedicated to genealogical research. Here's what you need to know:
Website Maintenance:
- Freedom of Host Choice: You have the liberty to choose any web host, as long as the content remains G-rated, ensuring it's suitable for all audiences.
- Flexible Website Creation Tools: Whether you're familiar with WYSIWYG, WordPress, or any other website builders, feel free to use the tool that best suits your skills and needs.
Website Content Guidelines:
- No Sales or Ads: To maintain the educational and non-commercial integrity of the site, please refrain from including any sales content or advertisements.
- Mandatory Links: Ensure that your main page prominently features links to both the National Site and the Nevada GenHeritage page for easy navigation and information cohesion. A link to the County Facebook Group is also mandatory.
Community and Communication:
- Facebook Group Participation: As a member of the GenHeritage Nevada Directors Facebook group, you'll be able to collaborate, share insights, and stay updated. If you're not on Facebook, we'll make alternative communication arrangements.
- Monthly Check-Ins: It's essential to communicate with the State Director every month, ideally between the 1st and 5th, to keep them informed about your progress and any issues or successes.
Data Management and Updates:
- Regular Updates: Your site should be updated monthly with new data, ensuring that visitors always have access to the latest information.
- Data Backup: All data added to your site should also be sent to the National Director for off-site storage, safeguarding against data loss.
As a County Director, your efforts in organizing and presenting genealogical data play a vital part in connecting people with their heritage. We're here to support you in this important role and look forward to the unique contributions you will bring to the GenHeritage community.
If you have any questions please contact the National Director We can help you get started even if you have never created a website!
